Share a classic recipe or Coke-inspired family mealtime memory

Warmer weather is here and I have my picnic basket cleaned and ready for our next adventure. Is yours? Well, get ready for some inspiration and memories that were very fond of my family and friends. With Twittermoms SocialMoms and Coca-Cola® I have the opportunity to remiss about some of my memories.

With Coke a cola being our favorite we usually use this to make floats in the summer after a long day at the pool. This makes for a great snack after the barbecue and the kids just take a little time out for some ice cream. Coke recipes; click here

My family loves going to festivals for the warmer months, from the strawberry festivals, to the end of the season pumpkin festivals. We pack up our picnic basket with cold sandwiches, pickles, beans, seeds and fruit we have a selection for all day at the beach, camping, or just the annual holiday event. Walking around we can always stop by some where and pick up a Coke.

I never knew how many different things were made by Coke, I meet one man who just collected all kinds of archives from; pop machines, cars, signs, metal pedal trucks, and the list is endless. Many of these items are in new or slightly used condition and worth money. It's quite amazing what some people will spend their money on and call it an investment. We have one neighbor who owns an old pop machine and while walking we can stop by put our money in and open it just like a refrigator and pull out a glass bottle of pop. You can't do that every where, it's so nice we have a good neighborhood to enjoy.

Are you ready to BBQ;

In the South-East Coca-Cola has been a popular (somewhat) way to sweeten & tenderize meat. It may sound strange, and it is, but the results taste better than they sound.

In Baja California Coca-Cola is also used often in the making of carnitas owing to the fact that sugar can be hard to find in some remote villages. The ubiquitous Coca-Cola however can be found in places you wouldn't imagine!

Amount Ingredient Preparation Method
2 cups Coca-Cola classic
1 cup apple cider vinegar
1 cup cooking oil
2 cloves garlic smashed
1 tsp Hungarian paprika
1 tsp cayenne pepper

Combine all ingredients in a saucepan. Bring to a boil. Cool. Marinate pork or beef roast overnight. Reserve marinate for basting.

AT A GLANCE:
The product that has given the world its best-known taste was born in Atlanta, Georgia, on May 8, 1886. Dr. John Stith Pemberton, a local pharmacist, produced the syrup for Coca-Cola®, and carried a jug of the new product down the street to Jacobs' Pharmacy, where it was sampled, pronounced "excellent" and placed on sale for five cents a glass as a soda fountain drink.

How To Boost Brain Power

As we age there are several things that are needed for boosting our brains. For some researches believe that our brains will shrink as we grow older. From my research this is caused by dehydration. While I was reading my morning papers-31 Ways to Get Smarter The best brain boosters for the new year. I found this to be a great little topic and a chance to share tips for boosting brain power at any age.

Drink Alkaline Ionizing Water only has five or six molecules, so it’s easily absorbed and hydrated the body immediately. The more hydrated you are, the healthier the skin and body is. Change Your Water Change Your Life
Take naps (power nap) proper rest is necessary for the body to function at full capacity. Getting 8 hours rest a night or a few naps during the day will make a great difference in your brains boosting power.
Healthy Diet Eating nuts and seeds are essential for vitamins that our brains need. Almonds and sunflower seeds as a snack (see recipes). Kale and Spinach is high in vitamin D. Also, Fish has the omega fatty acid like mackerel and Salmon.
Exercise regularly getting oxygenated blood flow to the brain keeps the brain healthy. Going out for a 15 min walk or taking the stairs instead of the elevator. I would try taking a ballroom dance class or aerobics exercise.
Quality Conversations pleasant, short ten minute conversation is so much better than a competitive conversation.

Count Your Blessings #2

We all have many blessings and sometimes need to slow down and just count them one by one. Just the other day I was saying "to learn to take the good with the bad". Yesterday seemed like everything was going to go wrong and I sat there waiting for the storm to pass. I was also blessed that day with enlightenment that I would have never imagined. I am truly blessed by God.

When we do things are not so heavy laden when others are there to share the good, the bad and the indifferent. Yesterday I also talked with my son about reaching out for help when things are not going so well. Describe what's wrong to someone and get the support you need to over come the bad things in life. We all have to learn coping skills so that we can bring back balance in our life.

I am blessed with the friends I have made on the social media sites. Also, for the information that they share to improve my posts. Blessing from above cover things from; the air I breath, each moment, to who I am, and what I have on this earth.

Here's the Rules

1. Make a comment and list the things your blessed with.
2. Leave your address to your post so that others may follow you.
3. Follow me in one of three ways to follow GCF, Networkedblogs, or blogger. (look in side bar further down on right.)

10 Holiday Survival Tips

The season is changing and we have had our first snow of the season. Waiting for Santa and his helpers we’ve decided to simplify our holiday traditions. With twittermoms and Tiny Prints I’ll share my tips for surving this holiday season.

1. Gathering your list of people who sent cards to you last year and using a great system by Tiny Prints christmas cards share a photo with family, friends and others. If there are many photo’s you would like to share then choose their web site.

2. Buy gifts in bulk is one way of getting a little something for that unexpected gift that may be presented to you. It’s always nice to have a back up plan just in case. These gifts never go to waste.
3. If traveling make sure you send the gift to the nearest store for pick up. Then there’s less packing and carrying on board with you. This is great for all those gifts that would be to costly to send UPS or mail.
4. For someone who has everything instead of sending the gift cards go spend some time with them. This will give you time out enjoying yourself as well as providing some memorable time with someone.
5. Having a cookie day party is one of the best ways to enjoy time with friends and make an array of cookies. Have everyone bring ingredients and hostess for the day will have the least to give as the electric bill will be their contribution.
6. Need help keeping the kids busy? This will be my first year at this but, my hopes are high. Having scavenger hunts throughout the month. Some activities such as reading, singing, making gifts, building snowmen. A prize for each day will help build the anticipation for the big day.
7. Trying new ideas from last year making each year count by doing something a little different. Changes happen with us and our family so making everyone’s needs get accommodated might be challenging but, oh so worth it when you find plans that everyone’s looking forward too.
8. Use your to-do-list on your phone it’s a time saver and maybe a life saver. Sometimes with all the hustle and bustle we either loss track of time & / or things that need to get done. Relax there’s time still, and pace your self so you can breath.
9. Make sure there’s time for YOU so you’re up to par then anything you do is going to be. Most of us do things to perfection so, take time to give your self some of that energy and effort too. Spend the day at the salon or make a sign that says spa day hang it on the door of the bathroom.
10. Take time to enjoy all the little things, the smell of fresh cookies, the look on someone’s face, and some old stories from past years. You’ll never past this way again.

I love this time of season maybe because I’m a snow baby. To keep the holidays going even with tighter finances I keep the holiday sprit going through decorating and spending time with loved ones doing what makes us happy. This year I’m adding volunteering as an Elf with my son for a reward he’ll learn what it is for making others happy. And isn’t that what Christmas is all about?

Little builder...future planing

Building is a great past time when developing coordination skills and 3D pictures from images. Kite flying at the beach is every kids flair for fun. Flying model air planes and rockets also has it's place in growth of exploration of science.

While attending the Coshoten air show 9/18/10 my son found the thrill of air planes and watching the stunts were amazing. Jets were just so, fast he got upset that he had difficult time photographing a great shot for his portfolio. He' kept at it and finally got his shot.

While sitting inside the cockpit a pilot explained how things work. The smile on my sons face told me all. We meet a pilot of a A-10 West from the air-force and asked what can we do to prepair for flight school.

Here's what we found out;

1. get good grades in school.
2. join in activities such as boy scouts of America
3. sports is a great program
4. AFJROTC starts off as early as 9th grade
5. learn how to serve God

I did hear of a program for as young as 6th grade but, as of yet to find it.

Sharing 10 ways of making your favorite foods healthier

Enjoying the foods I per pair for my family has always been a passion. With twittermoms and Weight Watchers® Smart Ones® I can share some my tips with you. Benefiting most from our daily choices and not saying "Supper size it" at the counter.

Here's my tips so, they won't go to your hips:

1. Natural foods –
While process food saves time (seemingly) they don’t give you family the nutrition that they need for emotional balance and energy. Fresh fruit and veggies in their natural state offer the vitamins and minerals our bodies need. Go grass feed animals too this ensures that the animals are getting the nutrients they need and so will you.
2. Wash foods –
With today’s mass market on produce there’s presides in the natural foods and our bodies don’t need the extra chemicals. Using an alkaline ionizing water system takes out the unwanted chemicals while soaking them in water for 20 minutes. The taste is pure, fresh and natural your body will thank you.

3. Nutritionist –
Make sure your on stepping up on the new fade food diets asks someone who has a PHD on nutrient. They have studied this subject and are looking for the best way to help your body stay fit. Fad diets are quick fixes and do more harm than good in the end.
4. Recipe books –
Look over what’s in the recipe to find foods that will benefit your families needs most. Try Brain foods for kids, the truth about the six pack abs, pregnancy miracle and juicing and detoxification. These all have great recipes and I use them very often.
5. Learn how to read the label of foods –
Take a class on how to read the labels of foods and find out what you’re really eating. These classes are offered at your local hospital and usually run for a period of six weeks or so. You’ll meet others and have a support team in your corner.
6. Water –
Drink lots of water did you know that our bodies are made up of a (70%) of water. Most times when we are hungry (think we’re) our bodies are crying out for more water. The body looses two and one half to three liters of water daily. Our bodies don’t tell us that there thirsty it’s mostly a sign of hunger. So, next time your hungry get a glass of water instead.
I drink alkaline water:
Antioxidants
Super Hydrating
Oxygenated
Ph Fortified
7. Cleanse –
Wastes that remains in the body eventually turns into acid and starts attacking our organs. That’s when diseases like diabetes, high cholesterol and blood pressure, acid reflux, gout, uric acid and heartburn start. Buy a colon cleanse every six months to keep the body clean. I like Blessed Herbs they have the best I‘ve seen on the market.

8. Reduce Stress –
Stress brings on toxins in our body which brings disease. Find a good exercise that will reduce stress to remove these toxins. Walk in the rain, good game of Frisbee or word search is just the fix. Go for a bike ride, walk though the park and take in some relaxation. Our children experience stress as well so, when this happens let them play an easy to win game to relieve this. Winning always makes us feel better.
9. Check ups –
Regular check ups helps to maintain an awareness of our physical health. Finding things out in the early stages gives us that much more of a chance in fighting back. So, talk to your doctor and keep them informed of your activities. As you might need to ask your physician to participate in some diet changes or exercise. So, ask your doctor first.
10. Maintence –
Get a planner and plan out our goals short term and long term, make these feasible too. A goal to high may bring defeat. Get a buddy to do some extra work outs at best you’ll have some great conversations. This way if you’re missing someone will notice. Bring new ideas to changes or add to your daily maintence so, things don’t get dull.

In conclusion love the body your in, love your age, we all have something to offer in this world so give what you can. And be glad of that there’s nobody just like you.

Flavorful Low-Sodium Family Meals

High-Energy Bean Burgers
Cheap meat-based burgers offer little in the way of nourishment and are high in fat and additives. These veggie versions take a little more effort but provide numerous health benefits.

Makes 4 burgers
scant 2/3 cup canned kidney beans, drained and rinsed
1/2 onion, grated
1 small carrot, grated
2/3 fresh whole wheat bread crumbs
1 tbsp smooth peanut butter (low-sodium/natural)
1 egg, beaten
Mrs. Dash® Tomato Basil Seasoning Blend
four for coating
sunflower oil, for frying
4 whole wheat hamburger buns or seeded bagels, to
shredded lettuce, tomato, and cucumber slices, to serve

1. Put the kidney beans in a food processor or blender with the onion, carrot, bread crumbs, peanut butter, and egg. Blend until the moisture forms a coarse puree. Season, then chill for 1 hour to allow the moisture to firm up.
2. Form the moisture into four burgers using floured hands, then dip each burger into four to coat.
3. Heat enough oil to just cover bottom of a large, heavy-based frying pan. Cook the burgers, two at a time for about 3 minutes on each side or until golden crisp. Drain on paper towels. Repeat with the remaining burgers. (To broil the burgers, brush with oil and broil for about 4 minutes on each side.)
4. To serve, split each hamburger fun or bagel in half. Add the burgers and lettuce, tomato, and cucumber as desired. Serve with a spoonful of hummus, guacamole, or tomato ketchup.

Brain Box
B-complex vitamins found in eggs are essential for optimum brain function, particularly clarity of thought.
The vitamin C in the adsorption of the iron also found in this green vegetable. Iron helps boost energy levels.

Ten Tips for Ensuring a Healthy, Safe and Successful School Year

Back to school is a great time for shoping for new cloths, decorating the bed room or just getting back to a full days work. I have noticed my son growing up but, in ways he still wants me to take care of many things for him. I try to prepair him for the school year the best I can. Here are some things that I do.

• Eat a balanced diet try foods that are good for the brain as well as emotional balance. Kids go though a lot at school and home having the body working at its full potential gives them a great chance at doing their best.
• Drinking plenty of clean water / Alkaline Water is a sure way to getting all the toxins out of the body. Toxins make us slow down, get sick, and over all not working at our best with concentration and memory. Getting a Kagen water system in my opinion is the best.
• Exercise daily by; walking to school, or the dog, or riding a bike. Exercise helps eliminate wastes out of the body to keep healthy and strong.
• Teach your kids how to get out of situations; for example smoking pure pressure telling friends that they just remember they have some when else to be and have to go. Set up a password too. Like how’s Lady our cat. Then you’ll know they want to get out of something.
• Teaching your kids how to negotiate will help them handle situations themselves. There are games out and online programs that take kids though situations and have them choose a reaction and they get an out come for their choices. Great tool for kids.
• Use the buddy system while out, locking the doors while at home and always let parents know where you are. Getting a tracking system on your phone is a great tool by your mobile phone company and is very cheap. Ask your provider.
• To have a success full year at school make sure you provide a good atmosphere at home, neighborhood, school, stores so, that kids can stop by and talk.
• Getting to know their names and providing a place where they can talk. Listening and slowing down their fast place life’s gives them time, to think, talk to others, and to get support from piers.
• Also, giving our kids some purpose to their life makes them have self worth and a higher self esteem. Lets be our kids hero’s.
• Having 15 mins to get to the next class gives kids time to make community at school. Having 1 hour classes makes up for the time lost during the day. Ask your school board if something like this can be done.

The purpose of this post is not only to enter the TwitterMoms and Airwear's contest in winning possible prizes (you can find out more here) but also to raise awareness about a topic that is personal to me. I worked with many kids and to have them achieve a good understanding of what they are learning is essential to functioning in society. I was not tested but I did not need glasses then as I do now. I know how important early, accurate testing is to ensure a child is not missing out because he/she cannot see properly.

With back to school awareness, you can also enter the Airwear essay contest at www.LighterSaferGreener.com. One winner will receive $1000! 10 first prize winners will receive voucherss for Airwear lenses valued up to $400!

5 Activities to Do in July

Celebrate your local postal worker and all postal workers on July 1st. Make cards and give them to your postal carrier when he or she delivers the mail today! Visit the post office and see if you can take a tour.
Give your mail carrier a special treat or glass of lemonade!
Write letters to your friends.

How about an old-fashioned family 4th of July Picnic? This meal will definitely bring back childhood memories of hot 4th of July holidays waiting for the fireworks to begin. Old fashion lemonade, sun tea, barbecue beans, potato salad, avocado salad-guacamole salad, great American hamburger, fried chicken, apple pie, strawberry short cake.

National Cherry Festival (7/6) Find a local parade and enjoy some of the rides, music, and foods.

Ice cream cone day (7/15) Summer is in full swing. Its hot and sizzling. You need something to help cool off. What a perfect time for Creative Ice Cream Flavors Day. (7/1).

Creative Ice Cream Flavors Day gives you the chance to create a new flavor of ice cream. Maybe, your new creation will be a hit, and become wildly popular.

Just how many flavors of ice cream is there? Those of you old enough to remember, will recall the "28 Flavors" of Howard Johnson's restaurant. Howard Johnson's actually had far more than 28 flavors. They always had 28 flavors in stock (hopefully) at a time. Those 28 flavors is just the tip of the iceberg. The combinations are seemingly endless.

Make today a fun day. Hold a formal or impromptu creative ice cream party. Make sure you have lots of flavors, toppers, and additives, so people at the party can get real crazy.

Cheer Up the Lonely Day is an opportunity to make a lonely person happy. Any time you can make someone happy, you've done a good thing, and should be proud of yourself. (7/11)

Lonely people have few friends and loved ones. They may have lost loved ones over the years. They may be elderly. They see people on an infrequent basis.

Spend some time today cheering up lonely people. It's easy to do.....just spend some time with them. When you visit, bring happy things to talk about. Keep the conversation upbeat, and lively. When you leave, give a big hug and let them know you enjoyed the stay. Sending cards or making a phone call is okay, only if they live too far away to visit. What a lonely person really needs, is face to face time with other people.

Easter recipes: Kulich & Paskha (Cake)

The traditional Easter foods are a nut and fruit filled yeast cake called kulich and an accompanying sweet cheese spread called paskha. Often the kulich and paskha were carried to church and set out on long tables to be blessed by the priest. (In the old days, the priest would often make a "house call" to his wealthier parishioners to bless the food at home.)

The recipes for these delicacies are involved and time-consuming. The classic kulich was begun several days before Easter. It contained candied fruit, almonds, and raisins. It was always baked in a special kind of pan-- tall and cylindrical, sort of like a coffee can. When the cake was done, it was decorated with white frosting drizzled down the sides. On the side, spelled out in pieces of candied fruit, were the letters XB, representing the Cyrillic letters for "Christos voskres" -- "Christ is risen."

Next to the cake was the paskha, presented carefully molded in a triangular shape. The letters "XB" were also inscribed on this creation. Creating this delight took hours-- it requires weighing down "pot cheese" with a heavy board to drain the moisture and then pressing it though a sieve before the other ingredients were added. The mixture contained more nuts and fruits, vanilla flavoring and sugar.

During the great Easter fast of the Orthodox church, it is forbidden to eat meat, eggs, butter or other dairy products.

On Easter Sunday, when the fast has ended, it is again allowed to eat these "forbidden" ingredients and this is why many of the Russian Easter dishes contain lots of eggs, butter, cream etc. In old agrarian society, making paskha was a way of using up all the eggs and dairy products that had piled up during the fast.

You need:

- two pounds of flour
- one and a half glasses of milk
- six eggs
- 10 ½ oz of butter or margarine
- 1 ½ or two glasses of sugar (less if you don’t want it very sweet)
- 1 ½ oz of yeast
- ¾ tea spoon of salt
- 5 ½ oz of raisins
- vanilla
For better taste and texture separate yolks from egg-whites.

- Mix one and a half glass of warm milk with yeast and half of the flour;
- Put the mix in a warm place;
- When the mix has risen and doubled in size, add salt, yolks mixed with sugar, vanilla, and butter;
- Mix all this again;
- Add the egg-whites, and the rest of the flour;
- The dough shouldn't’t be very thick, but well-beaten, and it should be coming off the dish easily;
- Put the mix in a warm place;
- When the mix doubled in size, add the raisins;
- Put the mix into a vertically shaped cake form; fill the form one third of the way for fluffier cake, fill it half way for thicker cake;
- Put the form in a warm place;
- When the mix in the form raised and filled ¾ of the form, treat the top with the beaten egg; for a nice white and sugary top treat it with egg-whites mixed with powdered sugar;
- Put in the oven and bake for 50-60 minutes at 350 F;
- While baking, check the cake and when the top looks baked, cover it with waxed baking paper;
- The cake is fully baked if the silver wear or a toothpick you are checking it with comes out dry.

"Pretend" Kulich

Mix up a boxed pound cake according to package directions. Throw in some raisins, chopped almonds, candied fruits. Use a little extra vanilla.
Optional: Use a pinch ( ½ teaspoon ) of powered saffron
Bake in a bunt pan according to package directions
Make a thin frosting of confectioner’s sugar, milk, vanilla and Crisco-- drizzle over the top and down the sides when the cake is cool. Decorate with fruit.
"Pretend" Paskha

Mix (to taste) raisins, candied fruits, almonds and a teaspoon of vanilla in a quart of ricotta cheese
Add sugar to taste
I've never quite been able to mold this concoction into a triangle shape, but it is easy to spread in a shallow pan and create the traditional "XB" in candied fruit pieces.

Refresh Everything that makes Us Sustain Life

What would you do if you had 250,000 to spend to make a difference in Eco? Well, I was talking to a friend while she explained how this contest was going on. While the details were explained to me it got me thinking what would I do to make a refresh everything in our world? Well, for starters I would educate people on how to use the skills they have to make money. EchoingGreenMusic Cool background music

With the workshop as a starting point, personalize their business that would help the neighbor hood. Supporting the needs of the local area for services or products that the attendee's would offer. Keeping travel down to a minimum for employment that would help with fuel and pollution. Each person holds a great asset and with some education on how to put the skills acquired from either home or a job these people could bring in cash.

Bringing in cash would enable families to get more of what they need or want. Such as better food; healthy eating enables for the body, mind and emotions to work more efficiently. Hold workshops for parents to make better meals called Brain Food. With people having more productivity, self esteem the mind set indiviuals can deal in harmony with less stress, results in less health problems through out the community. Families could once again afford to go out and enjoy activities such as exercise, sports and recreational functions.

For the families who may have bigger problems and can't afford to pay for their house I would market to them and offer a free, information site so, residents could learn of their other options and their rights as home owners. Other wise make an offer with no obligation to do a short sale for them with no charge. I would also offer this to local attorneys, lenders to get involved benefit if it was a win, win situation for all involved. I would save them just as I did when I was a life guard and teach them how to avoid this dilemma. As an added bonus teach about eco green paints & other materials that would cut down costs of a home..

Offer classes on how to get out of debt and stay out of it with out going without all those things we feel that we need. I would also, talk with some of my mentors on how I could offer my services for the area.

I would also, like to get school districts involved and sign the petition for making our schools more eco friendly so, that our children, their health, and use less energy and cost less to run. With every thing that teachers could impliment in their class rooms this would be a profitable and motivating plan to supplement the current situation of many people. This plan would eventually branch out to the neighboring areas for further development.

Continue my research, and develop and implement stagiest for the betterment of man kind. We could also, raise money for our local groups (boy scouts, girl scouts, high school students and nursing home patrons) to get active in global awareness making reusable bags for shopping, planting trees, green friendly; cleaners, plant foods & weed killers. Hold a picnic at the local pool for those that contribute their efforts.

Use some of the funds made by the participants to plant new tree saplings in areas where mining or timbering has made huge impacts on our environment of our local areas. This would be within government regulations and the company's acceptance. This would be a great teaching tool as for children often learn through modeling.

If you’re like most of us, the holidays are a fun and busy time spent with the family, going to parties and eating lots of tasty food! Between holiday parties, running here and there, and nibbling on all the yummy treats, we’ve gained 5 or 10 pounds before we know it! Here is my list;

1. Eat a balance diet
Eating a balanced diet can help ensure your vitamin and mineral needs are met.
Add a handful of almonds, hazelnuts or cashews to your daily diet.
Increase your intake of whole grains, particularly bran cereal.
Eat more fish, especially halibut.

2. Walk Around the Block
While it may seem as if moving about when you feel exhausted is the quickest route to feeling more exhausted, the opposite is true.
3. Eat More Whole Grains and Less Sugar
The key here is keeping blood sugar balanced so energy is constant.
While baking vegetarian cookies for energy for the holidays. Eat a lot of whole grains, which provide a slow and steady release of fuel, your energy will be consistent and balanced, so by day's end you'll feel less tired.
4. Hire a personal trainer who will hold you accountable – and charge you – for your workout time.
Personal trainers are great in creating the workout while, just working out. Also, getting that (coach) "come on..." helps keep awareness on working out to reach that higher heart rate to burn those calories off.
5. Break it up
Taking time to enjoy many different types of exercise. Some in the morning, noon, or after dinner. Holding stomach muscles in while typing is a tone work. Taking the steps helps with the cardio vascular work. Curls on the toilet and getting tone is as easy as one, two, three. Put your ankle weights at the side of the bed so, when you wake up you put them on.

6. Avoid Alcohol and drink water
Drinking water not only helps your immune system but, helps keep those pounds off.
7. Stress deal with it
Find positive ways to reduce stress and increase your energy level. Stress keeps those pounds on so, help yourself by cleaning or a long bath. Find out what works best for you.
8. Getting proper rest
Try to get more than six hours of sleep to keep energy levels up though the day. Different times zones for business associates sometimes a nap really does get help, burns fat too. There is just so much to do so little time, try not to over do it, find a good pace and stick with it for the long haul.

9. Get a friend to work out with
This way conversation or a meeting will be accomplished at the same time. Just catching up with my son is also just as good.
10. Satisfaction
Making sure that there is a feeling of satisfaction. Pleasing others while getting what is needed is a great way to keeping a healthy balance.

What was the most surprising gift you've ever received?

Thinking back to what was the most surprising gift I have ever received would be tough. Thanks to Twittermoms and Target, I have a chance to reflect on the answer to this one. I have been remembering many things from the past but, one was amazing. My little brother was born and he really was a gift from God. See I had given my dad the mumps and that had made him sterile. So, he really was a surprise we received. But, that's not all he went over seas and we did not hear from him because of a black out. Some time after that we received a call that he was coming home. He could not say when or why just wait. Weeks went by no word then on Christmas I tried his cell phone and he answered it. I was SO happy that my baby brother was home at last. Thank God for that.

I could also think of many other surprising gifts like the first Christmas with my son and the biggest tree I could buy. It barley fit it the hallway so, I had put it against the stairwell. There the ceiling was over 100 ft. My son's eye's were full of aw and you could tell he was so excited his little feet keep moving about.

A few years after that, I had my mother down for a week stay. Our town had only forty houses or so, when it snowed it basically shut down the town. I remember my mother waking up in the morning and looking out at the white covered valley in peace. I was so, happy she was able to see what I had fallen in love with. Since, then I have bought more pillows for the rest of family.

Having so many people share their homes and family with us since we were so far away from home. To buying gifts and baking cookies and making good memories with us I am so grateful for all the love received these years.
